Another new rule?
Rules Appendix 3: Please be considerate when in the #arcatorirc channel or main server chat. Swearing and discussing subjects such as sex around younger players is seriously inadvisable and thoroughly frowned upon, so check up on who is around before having 'mature' jokes and the like.
NinjaGirl's topic does highlight a certain issue within this community, so this is the draft version of a possible new rule to enforce it. I shall now quote her in full:
Alright so now I know that Arcator is all about freedom and what not but I do have one issue with it. The constant swearing. Every where you look on the site and in the chat is swearing! I mean sure every once in a while I can understand it. I even swear every now and again but I think that it has gotten to be way to much.
Look at the stream, only the "Awesome sysadmin" get nice names while the "annoying lusers" (which apparently is the majority of the players) get the names that call them nasty things. I'm not trying to be a kill joy or anything but is it really necessary to have all those nasty names? I made my very first stream post and took it down because of what the title said. I know you can set your own but really why would someone even want to have it say stuff like it does.
And in the chat we always have new players coming and going. I don't think it is good if say a little kid comes on and sees all the swearing that goes on in chat. I know it's not a constant thing but please can we clean it up a little?
I mean my mom wants to watch me play and teach her how to play but she only asks when I'm on the server and doesn't want to play when I'm in single player. I don't let her because if she saw some of the chat that goes on she would be horrified.
One final point, just because you swear on the internet does not make you cool. Over using it just makes you look like a complete moron who can't think of something else to say other than the F-bomb.
I'm not asking for all swearing to stop but maybe just clean it up please, I honestly don't think it would be that hard.
((Oh and as a side note to those who are thinking "Oh she's so childish! She can't even handle some swearing." Reason one, here, read it: http://www.listmyfive.com/1017c2ee/The-Top-Five-Reasons-Why-People-Constantly-Swear-and-Cuss. I don't care that you can swear, it's annoying and sorta childish if you do it constantly.))
Please give me your opinions and ideas in the comments section. Any stupid internet speak telling me to "just deal with it" will result in punishment. Also, the words n***er and f*ggot and their derivatives have never, ever been acceptable anywhere on Arcator.

I'd like to point out that none of the comments on Ninja's post even referenced people having to "deal with it". We were all saying that if you see it, and you have a problem with it, TELL US and we will tune it down a bit.
Just pointing that out, because your comment referenced people saying "just deal with it", which no one did.
I know, but there's a tendency for discussion to devolve into that.
Or maybe I'm just too used to 4chan?
Definitely too much 4chan.
Don't take "faggot" out of context. It means "bit of wood" as well as a pejorative for "gay person".
As for Ninjagirl, here is what I have to say:
1. What is your problem with swearing?
2. You have the right to be offended, but you don't have the right not to be offended.
3. Install a swearing filter if you're that fussed. Don't complain to me. Freedom of expression is much more important than freedom of...I don't know, satisfying conservatives.
Also, the "bad titles" on the stream were originally invented as a way to encourage people to give their own titles.
An opt-in filter to appease parents would be nice though.
Might as well go the whole hog and engage them with a nice session of annilingus.

Exactly. People have complained before about this, and we just waved it off. Why all the huge uproar? We couldn't give two damns if anyone else complained. It'll happen if you put a bunch of kids together.

Yeah, Kyle pointed out to me earlier (and I'm sorry Kyle if you didn't want this on the forums) that, why do we carelessly dismiss it when some random dude says that there's too much swearing, then NinjaGirl makes a post, and it becomes a new rule?

It also means meatball silly

Regarding swearing on the website, the stream insults are kind of part of the culture of the server. An opt-in filter to appease parents would be nice though.
