Alright so now I know that Arcator is all about freedom and what not but I do have one issue with it. The constant swearing. Every where you look on the site and in the chat is swearing! I mean sure every once in a while I can understand it. I even swear every now and again but I think that it has gotten to be way to much.

Look at the stream, only the "Awesome sysadmin" get nice names while the "annoying lusers" (which apparently is the majority of the players) get the names that call them nasty things. I'm not trying to be a kill joy or anything but is it really necessary to have all those nasty names? I made my very first stream post and took it down because of what the title said. I know you can set your own but really why would someone even want to have it say stuff like it does.

And in the chat we always have new players coming and going. I don't think it is good if say a little kid comes on and sees all the swearing that goes on in chat. I know it's not a constant thing but please can we clean it up a little?

I mean my mom wants to watch me play and teach her how to play but she only asks when I'm on the server and doesn't want to play when I'm in single player. I don't let her because if she saw some of the chat that goes on she would be horrified.

One final point, just because you swear on the internet does not make you cool. Over using it just makes you look like a complete moron who can't think of something else to say other than the F-bomb.

I'm not asking for all swearing to stop but maybe just clean it up please, I honestly don't think it would be that hard.

((Oh and as a side note to those who are thinking "Oh she's so childish! She can't even handle some swearing." Reason one, here, read it: http://www.listmyfive.com/1017c2ee/The-Top-Five-Reasons-Why-People-Constantly-Swear-and-Cuss. I don't care that you can swear, it's annoying and sorta childish if you do it constantly.))

I completley fu#$%! agree with this post. I would also like to add something about the "sex talk" that sometimes goes on the main IRC channel, I personally don't have any problems with a simple sex joke or something like that, but guys seriously, nobody cares about how you "did" somone whether it is true or not, if you want to tell somone about it tell them on a PM. As I told mr. somone before, its nasty and it doesn't makes you cool, especially when you start adding strong language and details, and you know kids play on the server.

I like turtles. I like trains too. Therefore I like train-turtles!

As one of the younger members of our little community, I was asked to give my opinion on this,
I have no problem with a few curses, or if somebody messed up a curse.
The only problem I have with cursing on this server is when it's directed at someone or someone is raging.
I'm not really offended by it but I think SOME people should cut down on the cursing.
I don't really have a problem with cursing because it's one if those "things" that people do on the internet on there's no way to stop them so...... I get used to it

When on stream you can enter a title name to avoid this...

My parents are aware of this, and are nice enough to let me still be on the server, but the reason I can't have teamspeak is because of the swearing. If you stopped swearing I would be soooo happy.

We've had constant discussions about this, and the final verdict always was,

If you see excessive swearing on the server and you don't like it, tell them not to do it around you, and if people don't listen, it's bannable for disrespecting staff.

In reference to @paulwohler, tell people in advance that you're coming on TeamSpeak, and they'll tone it down, because I would love to have more people on TeamSpeak.

In reference to @Dweson, the only time I did that in excrutiating detail (which actually wasn't that detailed), was to troll you because I knew it bothered you. It was a one-time occasion; I promise.

EDIT: Forgot to include that I generally agree with what all of you are saying, and I apologize because I'm often the one swearing. I'll tone it down Tongue

I agree with this too. No 7 year old or something like that (Apart from Pauleh, 'cause he's awesome), would want to stay on a server with constant swearing. The thing I'm REALLY against though, is the Captcha Maths Question thing. Where it says: "Necesarry bullshit to prevent bullshit, please comply"! I seriously think this should be changed to something like: "A necesarry inconvenience to stop un-necesarry inconveniences, please comply", which would be MUCH more professional!

I, for one, find it excruciatingly difficult to understand the logistics of what we come to know as "swear words" and "cusses". I mean let's be honest here. These "bad words" are all listed in the English Dictionary. Therefore, these are real words that are part of our culture and language. And I'm pretty sure there's a little something called the First Amendment that allows us to say such things without repercussion. I understand this is a UK based server, but surely you guys are allowed free speech as well! The only reason we as humans don't like these words and find them bad is because we were somehow manipulated into thinking so by who ever the fuck decided to way back when. What harm do these words actually cause (individually of course. using them to insult people can cause harm Confused)? South Park did an awesome episode on this idea after they were give permission to say "shit" in their episodes without having to bleep it out, and said it 162 times in one episode (written 38 times as well, bringing the total to 200 shits, and 1 shit per 8 seconds)! Also, one of my favorite Spongebob episodes of all time covered this idea. It's one of those *sentence enhancers*. Its a way of expression and since its in the god damn dictionary, I can barely comprehend why people can't stand these words. However, since people still can't wrap their minds around the fact that these words actually cause no harm (unless insulting someone), we still have to tone down our usage. I AGREE WITH NINJAGIRLS'S STATEMENT, but I still find the idea completely asinine. That is all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpVDmcQz5Ms Also your mom sounds awesome.

Ya I definitely agree with this. Excessive swearing anywhere can turn off a lot of people and make them not want to go there. So less swearing = more playerbase Big Grin

We've had multiple conversations about this. And every time it was settled to this. You put a bunch of 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, etc year old together, there will be swearing. It can't be helped. Sure, you could ask them to stop, but not everyone will listen. And honestly, anyone under the ago of 6-9ish shouldn't be playing multiplayer games in general unless they can handle the fact there will be swearing.

In reference to this, a sysadmin is a system administrator; i.e., the Owners. A luser is (note: I do know what a luser is, but I just decided getting a definition from the internet would be better than me trying to explain it xD)

Wikipedia wrote:

In Internet slang, a luser (sometimes expanded to local user; also luzer or luzzer) is a painfully annoying, stupid, or irritating computer user. It is a portmanteau of "loser" and "user"

It's nothing against users of the server in particular, it's just a way of expression the fact that a sysadmin is better than a luser. And there's a reason we have a Title box; if you don't like the mean names, just put in your own title!
